Do NOT Fight tomorrow with who you are Today

Many are looking into 2024 with chills running down their spine. Will I be able to keep my job? Will I be able to pay the bills? Will there be another lock down?

The world has conditioned us, like chess players, to think 20 steps ahead. To consider the future and be prepared for it. I do agree with this attitude, after all, we are all geared to hope for the future. The problem here is that considering the future normally generates anxiety because we fall for this common thinking error of considering future events while failing to take into account how far we will grow by then.
This is no different from the feeling you get when you look at the final exam questions on the very first day of school. You see complex concepts being discussed accompanied by strange jargon which your brain is not yet accustomed to. This moment of incomprehension then translates to a sense of dread as you lose your sense of security and confidence. So what just happened? You just opened a door which wasn't meant for you to see. As a freshman, you are already imagining how you would fare on your licensure exam. Of course, you will feel small and inadequate. In a sense, you just fought the big boss of a game while you're still in level 1. We are not meant to look into tomorrow as if we can control and conquer it on our own. Tomorrow is for God to handle - not us. James taught us to pray for tomorrow using the phrase "God Willing", because we simply do not know what is going to happen then. (James 4:15) The Lord Jesus Himself instructed us directly: "Do not worry about tomorrow" (Matthew 6:34) Even teaching us to pray: "give us today our daily bread", because the grace that we have is enough for today. Let tomorrow worry about itself says The Lord. It is not for us to ruminate on today. Don't get me wrong, it is good to plan for 2024. But do not look into it without considering the grace of God which will be sent to you by then. When the freshman looks into the final examination, they should keep in mind that by then, they would have received years and years of training. When the 18 year old imagines getting married in 10 years' time, they ought to consider how much they would have grown and more importantly how much of blessings they would receive from The Lord by then. So, the real question is, how much would The Lord have blessed you between now and January of 2024? What about 6 months in on June 2024? Can you imagine how much you would have grown in Christ by then? The troubles in your head will remain the same while you will be growing and growing in Christ. Whoever you are today is for today's battle. Tomorrow is a different battle wherein the grace needed remains to be unsealed. All I know is that if you are a level 1 fighter today, I can guarantee you that you won't be just level 1 when your challenges come. Do not fight tomorrow with who you are today. Wishing everyone a blessed 2024 in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ who is already preparing the grace we need for that appointed time!
