"父亲怎样怜恤他的儿女，耶和华也怎样怜恤敬畏他的人！"
父亲是神所创造的，为要让人能够看见神对他们的爱的写照。在这节经文中，耶和华的怜恤或慈爱被比作父亲对儿女的爱。在圣经的背景下，我们说的不是那些酗酒、不负责任、虐待孩子的父亲。我们让圣经来解释圣经。
当我们谈到父亲的爱时，我们想到的是浪子回头的故事。父亲到底有多爱这个儿子呢？儿子所做的只是拒绝、侮辱和伤害父亲。但父亲从来没有仇恨，从来没有苦毒，他从来没有任何报复的念头。当儿子自私地回到家时，父亲对儿子只有怜恤（路加福音15:11）。父亲随即抓住机会，把爱浇灌在儿子身上，无条件地恢复他原来的地位。我们天父对我们的爱就是如此！祂心中没有仇恨，没有苦毒，没有报复，也没有失望！转向祂，祂就会张开双臂奔向你，恢复你，无条件地爱你！
