[img:Vintage country]Proverbs 27:1 “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”
The Bible clearly states that without Jesus we cannot do anything (John 15:5). Still, there are people who boast as if they are the ones responsible for their life’s success. The Bible clearly teaches against boasting about ourselves and about tomorrow. We presume, because of technological and scientific advances that we have the power to predict tomorrow. We boast about being able to tell the weather; when the rain will come and when the sun will rise. Some are confident that they claim to know out of their knowledge and wisdom where the market forces are headed to. Some even claim that they can predict future events! The truth of the matter is that all of those examples given above are but illusions. They can’t be even considered lucky guesses because they’re most of the time wrong! No one can tell the future except The LORD (Isaiah 46:8-11). Is the story of inaccurate weather reports familiar to you? How about stories of bankers and traders who end up losing huge amounts of money in the stock exchange? Or Doctors predicting the death of patients who become miraculously healed? People simply presume too much about their illusive ‘capabilities’.

So, what are we to do? How should we speak about our future? Let’s go to the book of James which states:
Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." (James 4:13-15)
What the apostle James is reminding us to do is to constantly and eternally depend on The Lord and not on ourselves. We humble ourselves (be true to ourselves) and proclaim that only Jesus Christ, the Great Vine, is the Lord of our lives! Without Him we can do nothing! If it is the Lord’s will, then it shall be!
