Matthew 11:30
For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light
There is not one person in this world that is free from burden. Everyone will have some sort of baggage filled with problems that they carry around. The difference between one person and the other though is the way that burden is being perceived. The same kind of burden can seem greater to one person than the other. Some may be extremely overwhelmed by the death of a pet, another may recover real fast from the death of a family member.
I have a friend who seem to have everything go wrong in her life. She was diagnosed with an incurable anti immune system disease that affected her lifestyle. At about the same time, her father was diagnosed with liver cancer. Not long after, her brother died at the age of early 30's. However, I have never heard her complain about life, especially God. She has this zest for life, going around smiling and being positive at all times. Somehow she's able to find this grace to feel highly secure that God is in complete control of her life. For most people, a bad day is enough to ruin our joy. The slightest problem, or anything that does not go according to plan is a reason to go around feeling heavily burdened by this life. The bible says in Matthew 11:28-30, 'Then Jesus said ,”Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for you souls. For my yoke is
easy to bear
, and the burden I give you is
light
”
Notice how the bible explains that while life will bring burdens along with it, it should be light and easy to bear. I believe the key lies in whether we understand what is the purpose of us being on this earth. We are created for God's pleasure. Therefore, in everything we do, including the way we handle the burdens in life, we must live our lives pleasing God. We are not here to simply please ourselves. Yes, we should take care of our lives and try to fix our problems, but we are not to be too preoccupied by them. Our lives are no longer ours alone, but it is here for God's pleasure. I believe When we understand this simple truth, it will change our perspective on life. This is what it means to be Christ centered. We may have tons of problems come our way, but we don't have to wait for those problems to be solved in order to enjoy the life God has planned for us. As long as we can discipline ourself every morning when we wake up and say “God, You put me here on earth for Your pleasure, and I am here to please You in all I do, that includes putting You above my problems.” I guarantee that supernaturally, our yoke will become easier to bear, and the burdens in this life will become much lighter.
Keep Christ as priority
Pleasing him in all your ways
and the burdens in life will become secondary
